UP TO THE RIEGERSBURG CASTLE
MOUNT THE CASTLE AS YOU LIKE IT
No matter which ascent variant you choose, the Riegersburg is an experience in any case.
CASTLE LIFT
Since 2003, the castle can be reached comfortably by a panoramic lift, whose lift station is located on the north side of the castle hill. The cabin can accommodate 20 people, and the approximately 90-meter difference in altitude is overcome in a little more than a minute.
At the lift station there is also a large parking lot, which can also accommodate several buses.
HISTORICAL CASTLE PATH
The castle hill can also be walked up from the village of Riegersburg. The path starts in the village at the Riegersburg parish church. The walking time is about 15-20 minutes.
Since it is a natural rocky path, it is not possible to use wheelchairs, baby carriages etc. on the footpath. In these cases we ask to use the castle lift. Good shoes are recommended!
Via Ferrata
Since 2011, a section of the Burgberg can also be climbed via the Leopold route along the Burgfelsen. The entrance is located after the first turn of the castle foot path.
TIP: CASTLE HIKING LOOP
You park directly at the parking lot of our visitor center at the Castle lift, walk along the breathtaking west side of the castle rock into the village of Riegersburg and enjoy a unique view of the castle. Right next to the parish church is the entrance to the castle path. During the walk up to the castle you can see the imposing fortification with its gates, defensive walls and bastions. After a visit to the bird of prey show, our museums and a refreshment in the tavern, you can comfortably take the elevator back down to your car. And of course, the whole thing is also possible in the opposite direction.
